Last night, I picked up Blanca, the dog who was nearly starved to death by one of her owners – and now we know a little more about her.
Her person did a good job of bringing her back from emaciation – she is still very thin but an improvement on the scary skeleton I met a few days ago!
I brought her home last night and this morning we went to the vet. She got all of her shots and now has a current rabies tag, she also got a parvo/combo shot and a bordatella vaccine. She is not sick and the vet found no major issues. She currently weighs 47 lbs and I’m guessing she should be at least 10 lbs heavier, if not more. She is heartworm negative. She appears to be a pit mix.
She met 5 of my dogs at the house and had no problems; she is curious about them and playful.
She is not food aggressive with dogs or people. I can take away her bowl or high value treats. When another dog barged into her crate to steal her food bowl… she ran away. She likes to ride in the car. She is gentle and a little head shy. She’s been through a lot and is a little unsure of everything and timid, but hopeful. I brought her in late last night and she was restless and pacing by the door (looking for her owner?) so I put her in bed with me and she slept soundly through the night. She is adorable. As she gets to know you she gets more affectionate. She likes to have her belly rubbed. She solicits attention from strangers.
Due to my own situation (She’s the 7th dog in my studio apartment!) and testing my landlord’s patience and generosity I need to place Blanca as soon as possible – into an appropriate situation, of course! I now have some solid leads and I am hopeful I can place her in the next few days.
